AAAN is Participating in Rights Working Group Week of Action
| | 2011 Week of Action: Reflecting on Our Loss and Reclaiming Our Rights
Between the 10th anniversary of 9/11 and Constitution Day, Rights Working Group members across the country will host events to reflect on our losses in the past ten years, and to reclaim our rights.
The tragic events of 9/11 resulted in a devastating loss of life. It also was the catalyst that changed many policies involving national security, immigration, privacy, and policing-often making racial profiling more widespread and far-reaching. Ten years later, we have an opportunity to reflect on the loss of lives during the tragic events of 9/11. We have a chance to reflect on the loss of our rights, and the rights of many in our communities, and we can stand up and work together to reclaim these rights.

Chicago Walks out of Secure Communities Hearing
| | ...some exciting news from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights:
Today, DHS attempted to come to Chicago to host a hearing more interested in politics than policy. They arrived claiming to want to fix a program well beyond repair.
The Chicago immigrant community unequivocally responded by stating in no uncertain terms the only real solution to the "Secure Communities" problem is to terminate the program.
The youth who attended led hundreds at the DHS taskforce meeting in a walk out after calling for taskforce members to resign.
